Research Interest: Viral Hepatitis

Dr Nokukhanya Msomi is currently completing her PhD studying the evolution of Hepatitis B virus and its variants. She is a current National Research Foundation (NRF) Grant recipient. She previously received the Welcome Trust Scholarship to study viral genomics and bioinformatics at the Sanger Institute in Cambridge, United Kingdom.
Dr Msomi serves as a member of the World Health Organisation (WHO) sanctioned National Certification Committee (NCC) appointed by the Minister of Health to guide and drive the South Africa’s efforts towards Polio Eradication.
Dr Msomi is a self-driven, dynamic individual with excellent leadership skills. She seamlessly functions as a lecturer, researcher and leader of the Provincial Clinical Diagnostic Service for Virology in the KwaZulu-Natal National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS).
She is passionate about mentorship and is an amateur mountain biker.
